Golf Course Reviews: Tailored for Ordinary Golfers

At Ordinary Golf we debated how to review courses to give our readers the best advice for playing that club. We want to deliver consistency for something that is very subjective whilst making sure we give our readers some advice that will help guide them round the course, but also make it an enjoyable read.

There are many different systems and views on how to review courses. What we have come up with is completely subjective, but in a way which we think will help ordinary golfers. We have gone for a classic out of five approach but with a slight difference. We have decided to categorise the courses we play into three categories:

Tier 1: Championship/ Open Courses/ Top Tier. Tier 1 courses will include courses on the top 100 lists from across the world.

Tier 2: Club courses. Club courses will cover the courses that don’t make the top 100 and where most of us Ordinary Golfers generally play.

Tier 3: Local/ public/ quirky courses. We don’t think it is fair to compare well funded clubs with those local public courses that are often hidden gems and do not have the funding to keep them in the sort of condition we would expect for a tier 2 club. There are lots of clubs that fit into this category and as well providing a great challenge are often a lot of fun too.

We appreciate people’s views will differ from ours and we encourage people to send us their feedback on any of the courses we have reviewed, and we’d love you to send us a review of any courses you’ve played!
